Turquoise and diamond necklace by Bulgari (1960s)A spectacular turquoise and diamond necklace by Bulgari together with a 7 carat, E colour, diamond ring, by Van Cleef and Arpels are some of the dazzling highlights of Bonhams, May 27th sale of Fine Jewellery at the Byron Kennedy Hall, Moore Park, Sydney. Preview, viewings will be held in both Melbourne and in Sydney.

Contemporary and Signed Jewels

Diamond single-stone ring by Van Cleef & ArpelsAn impressive diamond ring by Van Cleef & Arpels, mounted with a central, colourless, diamond of 7 carats is the highest valued lot in the sale at $185,000-225,000.

A spectacular 1960’s necklace by Bulgari, composed of a fringe of oval-shaped turquoise, and brilliant-cut diamonds is estimated at $135,000-155,000. This necklace is a highly coveted example of classic Bulgari design, and similar to a necklace of the same era, exhibited at the 2010 exposition of Bulgari, 125 years of Italian Magnificence, Grand Palais, Paris.

Continuing the theme of important signed jewellery is a rare, 1930s, 4.87 carat, old brilliant-cut diamond ring by important twentieth century French workmaster Georges Lenfant, maker, of jewels to renowned jewellery houses Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier.

Included in this section is a diverse range of modern and period signed jewellery, including, two modern diamond-set suites of jewellery by Cartier, and pair of 1970’s earclips by iconic, designer Aldo Cipullo for Cartier. The offering also includes cocktail rings by David Webb, and famed Italian jewellery house Buccellati, together with a range of jewellery by Tiffany &, Co. including an early 20th century sapphire and diamond three-stone ring. A fabulous ring, by Harry Winston, set with an oval-shaped cabochon ruby of 9.94 carats carries an estimate of $20,000-25,000. The sale will also include an attractive selection of signed cufflinks,
including a pair of ruby cufflinks of classic bar design, by Van Cleef & Arpels.

Diamonds and Gemstones

Early 20th Century Diamon Bow BroochThis sale will offer an extensive selection of diamond and gem-set jewellery.

A highlight of this section is an elegant pair of floral cluster earclips comprising 10 carats of, pear-shaped diamonds, each with fancy pink diamond centres, and are to be offered at an, estimate of $55,000-65,000. An impressive diamond longchain set with over 50 carats of, diamonds at $60,000-70,000, and a diamond bracelet of over 85 carats at $54,000-64,000, are key pieces of the sale. For buyers in pursuit of a fabulous diamond ring, a wide variety of, rings set with diamonds ranging from just 1.00 carat to 5.23 carats are to be offered.

Coloured gemstones will also feature in this sale, including a charming art deco sugarloaf, cabochon emerald of approximately 7.50 carats, as well as a rare and beautiful star sapphire, cabochon ring of 25.93 carats, both of which are to be offered at $38,000 – 48,000.

Antique Jewellery

At the forefront of this section is an array of antique Italian jewellery of archaeological revival, design. Included is a rare micromosaic fringe necklace of exceptional craftsmanship, circa, 1890 at $8000-10,000. Other antique Italian pieces include a cased, Etruscan revival gold, diamond and ruby brooch, circa 1900, at an estimate of $2000-2800.

There is also an elegant George III diamond bracelet with fitted case by the renowned Bond, Street jewellers, SJ Phillips. It is exceptional for its simplicity of design and although 200, years old, is in wonderful condition and estimated at $10,000-14,000.
