Noche Flamenca
Noche Flamenca — Flamenco stripped bare in sizzling Australian tour (presented by Arts Projects Australia and Maggie Gerrand).
Fresh from an acclaimed US tour, Madrid-based flamenco dance company, Noche Flamenca, appears in Australia for the first time in eight years, giving audiences a rare chance to experience the beauty and intensity of flamenco in its purest form. Filled with passion and sensuality, their exhilarating performance captures the essence of traditional flamenco without the use tricks or gimmicks. Instead the company relies on the exceptional talents of its artists as well as their profound understanding of this complex and mysterious art-form of the Andalucian gypsies.
Formed in 1993 by artistic director, Martin Santangeo with wife and undoubted star of the company, Soledad Barrio, Noche Flamenca features 11 exceptional dancers, musicians and singers who evoke raw, steamy atmosphere of Spain’s café cantantes in a celebration of the human spirit expressed through dance, song and music. Noche Flamenca has toured extensively since it inception, consistently attracting sell-out houses standing ovations and high critical praise in the US, Europe and Japan.

I have encountered many dance companies, and many more individual dancers. Of these there has been none I have been so glad to discover as Noche Flamenca and, above all, its lead dancer, Soledad Barrio. I can think of no current dancer in the world as marvellous as she. New York Times
In an era of showbiz hype and superficiality, the company is a refreshing reminder that simple lighting, few chairs and some fabulous red dresses are all that’s needed when pure talent an genuine feeling take center stage. Boston Herald
