Pilobolus
One of the world’s greatest dance companies, Pilobolus, based in Connecticut, will return to Australia in May 2009, with astonishing feats of balance and strength, humour and polish.
Sydney cannot afford to miss its first introduction to one of the world’s most celebrated dance companies.
They will bring a rich divergent program to the Sydney Theatre consisting of five singular works Rushes, Pseudopodia, Darkness and Light, Symbiosis and Megawatt.
Pilobolus was founded by four Dartmouth graduates in 1971. It has performed more than a hundred shows a year in a total of 62 countries, appeared at the 2007 Oscars, took part in three Olympic games and created the book The Human Alphabet.
Recently Pilobolus collaborated with puppeteer Basil Twist, working with Robby Barnett and Jonathan Wolken. Twist has given the company Darkness and Light, an engrossing work which brings the art of light and dark illusion through shadow play to the stage.
Megawatt, set to music by Primus, Radiohead and Squarepusher, is a breathtaking display by the full company group of their physical endurance and prowess.
Symbiosis is a male and female duet, which traces the birth of a relationship between two creatures sinuously and sensuously intertwined.
Pseudopodia is a tumbling tumbleweed male dancer solo set to an all-percussion score.
Rushesis by two Israeli choreographers, Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak, working with one of the company’s founding figures Robby Barnett.
