Burt BacharachThe songs of Burt Bacharach have captivated music-lovers, movie-goers and romantics across the globe for 6 decades, and this July Sydneysiders will have their chance to be wooed in person!

One of the world’s most prolific and celebrated song writers, Bacharach is joined on stage by the Sydney Symphony and his US band and singers for a truly magical live experience that will see him both at the piano and on the microphone. He will give five spectacular concerts at the Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House July 10 – 14 at 8pm.

Showcasing some of his all time classic hits, Bacharach’s Sydney concerts will include What’s New Pussycat?, Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head, Always Something There To remind me, I Say A Little Prayer, What The World Need Now and Alfie.

Bacharach, now in his late 70s, last performed in Sydney in 1998. His 60-year career as one of songwriting’s most successful and honored songwriters has been marked by 48 Top-10 hits, nine #1 songs, more than 500 compositions and a landmark 49-year run on the charts.

Bacharach is a recipient of three Academy Awards and seven Grammy Awards. His songs have been recorded by Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Linda Ronstadt, Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin.

He has also enjoyed a celebrated career in film. His compositions include Alfie (1966), What’s New Pussycat? (1965), Arthur (Best That You Can Do) (1979), Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004), and the three Austin Powers movies.

Mike Myers considers Bacharach his lucky charm, and cast him in all three Austin Powers films. People Magazine named him one of the Sexiest Men Alive in 2000, and one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in 1999.

The Sydney Symphony has collaborated with a stellar line up of stars in recent years, including sell-out performances with Ben Folds, Olivia Newton-John and John Farnham. Bringing new audiences to the concert hall and weaving together the music of film, jazz and popular culture they represent an exciting side to Australia’s flagship Orchestra. In 2007 Sydney Symphony celebrates its 75th birthday with a spectacular year of festivals, collaborations, film projects and concerts to keep Sydney entertained and inspired.
