The WOMADelaide LogoSydneysiders unable to travel to Adelaide for W0MADelaide 2003, which this year offers the biggest line-up ever with 350 artists from 31 countries, will be given the opportunity to catch three top W0MADelaide acts in Sydney.

The UK’s Temple of Sound will perform at Metro Tuesday March 11; French Canadian six-piece La Volée d’Castors will appear at The Basement Tuesday March 11 and Algerian rocker Rachid Taha can be seen at Metro on Wednesday March 12.

London’s clubland and Cuba, (the most dance orientated society in the world) is the inspiration behind Temple of Sound. Having parted company with UK pioneering global-fusion outfit Transglobal Underground, Neil Sparkes — poet, painter, musician and global dub professor; and dub-master Count Dubulah have created a new sound vehicle. Their sound is an Afro-Cuban, Latin amalgamation with a strong urban dance flavour.

Rachid Taha is an Algerian rocker who mixes traditional North African styles with influences that range from the Clash and Led Zeppelin through to African pop, techno and contemporary dance. The result is fresh and exciting, bringing a whole variety of North African styles into the pop mainstream. Rachid is a political campaigner who has used pop music to fight racism and champion the cause of immigrants and the disenfranchised everywhere. His career has always been influenced by the struggle of his family to make a living first in Algeria, then as immigrants to France. Rachid Taha is supported by AFAA and Alliance Francaise.

La Volée d’Castors is a young French Canadian group that perform progressive traditional music drawn from a rich musical heritage with strong Celtic influences from France, Ireland, Scotland and Eastern Europe — traditional French folk music spiced with exotic influences and playful rhythms. La Volee is supported by the Canadian Government, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
